Two Detentions Following Heathrow ‘Pepper Spray’ Incident

This incident caused the partial shutdown of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the T3 parking area.

Two more people are now in custody in connection with a robbery at Heathrow Airport in which 21 people sustained injuries by a substance believed to be pepper spray, according to law enforcement.

A 24-year-old man, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area on suspicion of theft and assault and a 23-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of conspiring to commit a robbery. They both are still being held, the force said.

These detentions follow a probe into an assault at the multi-storey car park at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Prior to the incident, two women had stolen from them their luggage after getting out of a parking garage elevator.

A three-year-old girl was among the injured in the event. A total of five individuals were taken to the hospital for medical care and were later released.

Police arrested a man in his thirties for suspected robbery and assault close to the scene. He has since been released pending further inquiries while inquiries continue.

Police were alerted at about 08:10 GMT following reports of a number of individuals injured by an irritating chemical thought to be pepper spray.

The attack - an event that police said was isolated and not being treated as terrorism - resulted in delays to rail services and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the Terminal 3 parking facility briefly.
